About El Harissa
El Harissa Market Cafe is family-owned and operated in West Ann Arbor. Opened in late 2013, El Harissa is the culmination of years of work from owners Khaled Houamed and Susan Thomas. Khaled and Susan wanted to bring a unique and exquisite taste to Ann Arbor from a region that many have not experienced. The authentic dishes from the Maghred, Adalusia, and Sicily that El Harissa serves are prepared with incredible care and technique.
Khaled was a researcher at the University of Michigan, and Susan was an elementary school teacher before they decided to pursue their dream of opening El Harissa. Their children, Yusef and Sarah, are now students at the University of Pennsylvania and Stanford, respectively. Together, with the help of some dear friends, they built El Harissa from the ground up injecting it with a warm and inviting air. Come and experience the great atmosphere, customer service, and flavors of El Harissa!
